Site Info

You are currently browsing the archive for the Site Info category.

Just added two plugins to this site, which comes up with quite good.

The first one is Sociable, which is used to embed links to more than 60 social networking sites. Readers can easily click the configurable icons and bookmark in their favourite websites. The plugin is easily configurable through the Options -> Sociable, however, the drag-n-drop function seems causing javascript error.

Another plugin is the Google Analyticator, which simply add Google Analytics links to the header or footer to enable site traffic monitoring by Google Analytics. The plugin is not complicated, but really useful. The blog administrator no longer needs to add the javascript manually in every theme source.

It is the first time that I work on a plugin and really contribute to the WordPress World. It is really a good start.

With the help of Ronald Huereca, I learn how to use poEdit to localize wordpress component. What a great tool in translating, as easy as anyone knows how to use. As a return, I help to localize the Ajax Edit Comments Plugin to Traditional Chinese (my mother language) :P

Hope to do more on WordPress in the coming days, and I do also explore bbPress and see how to integrate them together. Combining both really provides a very good web solution.

WPMU CAS Integration

To casify Wordpress mu, andrejciho provides a great solution to this making use of phpCAS 0.5.0.

Here are the instructions listed in his page, mainly:

  1. Adding the phpCAS as a plugin to Wordpress
  2. Customize the login / logout logic to use CAS Authentication
  3. Change the Welcome message and email

These are done very well by walking through the instructions below:

Due to the plan of starting up a company, I started to research on the methods to increase the exploration rate of my sites on the Internet. The most common method is of course by the use of search engines.

Usually, you can do in two ways.

  1. Put an advertisement on the search engines
  2. Use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) skills to increase the natural rank

Both of these consist a lot of knowledges, I wish I can put more articles about these later.

Currently, I only use tools from Search Engine to “help” increasing the natural rank. The tools are:

Google Webmaster tools - http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/
Yahoo! Site Explorer - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

In order to search your wordpress blog in Google, you can add your site into Google Webmaster Tools. After that, to make the search better, you can create a sitemap.xml file in your site and let the Google spiders to read it. For me, Google reaches my sitemap.xml in just a few minutes after I submit.

To manually update this file is stupid, we need a plugin. Here, arne created the plugin. Go and see.

There is also a demo here by Andre.

This plugin is good. It supports both Wordpress and Wordpress Mu. Easy to install as other plugins, by just uploading the unzipped folder to your wp-contents/plugins folder.

Try it out.

As JPA is providing the interface to connect your Java application to the database, it is supposed to be just an interface doing so. In the other words, you have freedom in managing your database, by changing the DB-specific parameters and tuning the database.

In MySQL, as most people should know, there provides a choice of storage engine on each table. By using JPA, you can let the persistence provider to generate the table for you. It is easy and let the persistence provider determine the suitable configuration for you, both on table and on each field.

The default storage engine for table is InnoDB, as it supports transaction, row-locking and foreign keys where are needed by JPA. However, if you have a table that needs performance rather than data accuracy, you can manually change the storage engine to MyISAM before or after the persistence provider’s decision.

You can stop the persistence provider from generating the table, which you build your own table first, and just simply mapped all the things to the Entity.
